June Photography Competition 2020
Every month in the club we run a monthly members photography competition. Normally this is done on the night of our meeting with members voting for their favourite snap. During lockdown we were lucky to still be able to keep our competition runnings, with members submitting their pictures digitally and the club posted them onto facebook for public vote. It was great that as a club we were able to keep some normally even though we couldn’t meet as usual.
For the June 2020 Photography Competition we decided to mix it up a bit and run a different style of the competition. The club decided on a weekly competition with knock-outs rounds leading to grand final with the chance to win a prize.
The main rules of the competition was that the picture had to be taken between the Sunday of when the theme was announced and the following Saturday evening. The pictures could not be posted to social media beforehand just to make it fair and anonymous for all who enter. Each week we would also just a wildcard( or 2) to go through to the next week. Only one picture per member could be entered.
The theme for Week 1 was open. We had a total of 12 pictures entered and put to the public vote.
The winners as voted by public vote on facebook and going straight through to week 2 were Marie Moran, Joan McKenna, Mary O’Grady, Mary Theresa Clancy, Phil Brady ,Rosie Cummins and Marie Kearns. A wild Card was chosen from the remaining photos by an independent committee member, which meant Bridie Roe was also through to week 2.
The theme for week 2 was nature.
The winners going straight through on public vote were: Joan McKenna, Marie Kearns and Mary O’Grady.
The theme for week 3 was colour.
This was the penultimate week of the competition with 4 winners going through from public vote and 1 wild card chosen from additional entries submitted.
The members going into the final were: Martina Hanbury, Joan McKenna, Mary O’Grady, Nuala Madden and the wild card was Bridie Roe.
The final week. The theme for week 4 was water. There was no wild cards chosen for the final with just the 5 winners from week 3 going straight through to the public vote.
1st place winner was: Mary O’Grady
2nd place winner was: Bridie Roe
