Introducing……

Tullamore Camera Club want to take the opportunity to introduce members and to show their style of photography. Over the coming months we will be chatting to each of our members asking them questions about their passion for photography and what Tullamore Camera Club means for them. The first member we chatted to is Philomena Brady from Ballinagar.

Philomena, How long have you been a member of Tullamore Camera Club?

I’ve have been a member of Tullamore Camera Club since 2010 and really enjoy photography. I’m out any moment I can taking pictures. I have a Canon 760d with a 150-600 Sigma lens and also an 18-200 Sigma lens. The last photographic item I purchased was a light box – I brought it along to a Tullamore Camera Club meeting where we had endless fun with it!

What is your Photographic style?

My main interest is Wildlife photography, but landscape, macro and lowlight photography also interest me. On saying that, if the club have a photography project (usually fund raising projects) I will always take part and enjoy doing so.

Your favourite outing with Tullamore Camera Club?

The social aspect of the club is very important and I really enjoy the outings both national and international. Every day is a learning day with photography. My favourite trip so far has been the one to Clifden in November 2017 – from Friday morning to late Sunday night the camera never left my side.It was a fantastic weekend with lots of pictures and lots of laughs.

Most memorable photo?

Wildlife is without doubt my favourite type of photography. In 2017 I was in the Phoenix Park to photograph the Deers, I shared my photographs with the Irish Wildlife Trust. After that, they put together a book of photos taken of wildlife in Ireland and I was very fortunate that my photo was included. While promoting the book on RTE’s Six-One it was my photo beside Brian Dobson, that was the highlight of my week.

What are your photographic achievements?

Tullamore Camera club regularly have exhibitions – we have exhibited in Offaly Co Co Atrium, Tullamore Show, MPG, Libraries in Tullamore, Edenderry and Birr – and Ive enjoyed taking part in them all! While the club ethos is to enjoy your photography, they always encourage members to share their photographs and exhibiting is a great way to do it. I hope some to put together a solo exhibition in 2019.
The MPG (Midland Photography Group) is an umbrella organisation which includes the Midlands Camera Clubs. They organise guest speakers & presentations and each November they organise the MPG Challenge. Each club presents 2 panels of 8 photographs – one in colour and one in Black & White. Ive been lucky to have had photos selected as long as Tullamore Camera Club has been involved. Paul Whitely Cleaning sponsors the event and Im proud to say I have an MPG award adorning my mantelpiece from the event.

What do enjoy most about Tullamore Camera Club?

I Love it! Everything about it – the photography, the people, the meetings, the outings … I learn or share something everytime I meet members either at a meeting or on an outing or on a social night out – it really is a wonderful club’

Where can we find more of your photos?.

Facebook is a great platform and I regularly shares photos on various FaceBook pages – Irish Wildlife Trust, Ireland by the Roadside, Bird Watch Ireland, Cloud Watchers and Postcards from Ireland to name a few. Through sharing my photographs on facebook Ive made many friends and have also met some in person and visited them abroad. Through the FaceBook pages Ive learned so much about wildlife and it makes me aware of how wonderful Mother Nature is.

Thanks to Philomena for sitting down and chatting with us about photography. We also want to take the opportunity to thank Philomena for being highly involved club member. She has been fantastic with new members and actively encourages them to take part our various projects as this is a great way to learn photography and get to know the other members.Looking forward to seeing more from Philomena in the future- especially that solo exhibition!!!!!
