Summertime in Paris 2013 (Part 1)

Bonjour

One of the many activities organised by the Tullamore Camera Club are trips away (with cameras in tow of course). Local and national trips had been successfully organised with great interest and participation. In 2013 the club organised a trip to Paris in June of that year. This was the brain child of Alex Aubin (club member, current Chairman and Parisian native) and he planned the trip to the last detail. It was organised to coincide with the annual Fete de la Musique held each year in June.

Day one

With Alex’s enthusiasm and local knowledge, the group enjoyed the obvious attractions along with other hidden gems in the wonderful city of lights. Day one included a trip on the Saint Lazare train, the Bastille building and Luxembourg gardens. We also took a lift to the terrace of the ‘Le Printemps’ department store which as a glorious view of the city, well worth the trip. All this after an early morning flight!

Day Two

Day two included the Louvre, Palais Royal Courtyard, the Marais historic area of Paris, a walk along the Seine riverbank and the Champs Elysees. It finished with a visit to the Montmartre area and a night shot of the Sacre Coeur.

Day Three

The final day was a free day to revisit a favourite spot or just go accross the road from the hotel to the Botanic Gardens and Zoo. Some members discovered the Latin Quarter and enjoyed afternoon coffee before their flight home.

Thanks to our tour guide

The selection of photos shows the variety of photographic opportunities in Paris. Alex is indeed a born tour guide and he navigated the group to their chosen landmark destinations and also pointed out the more quieter areas of the city for that ‘Wow’ shot. Strolling in between destinations, the vibrant music was a bonus backdrop and there were many coffee (and sometimes something a little stronger) stops, just to sit back and enjoy the atmosphere and take a photo (or three).

Our exhibition

Offaly County Council (Arts Section) allowed the club a time frame to exhibit some of the many photos taken. There is such a great feeling of achievement and satisfaction when viewing your own photos on display and to listen to the wonderful comments and feedback from fellow members and general public alike. Many thanks to Offaly County Council for the opportunity to exhibit our photos, this local support is fantastic for our club.

Browse through the selection of photos below taken during that trip.

Keep an eye out for tomorrows blog with stories from our members about the trip to Paris.
